The evening will feature two all-star speakers: Melissa Reeves, Ph.D., 2024 V Foundation grantee at Huntsman Cancer Institute, and Noah Elliott, snowboarder and three-time Team USA Paralympian.
Melissa Reeves, Ph.D. studies how immune cells respond to cancer, with a particular interest in how different regions of the same tumor can have different immune cells in them. Her V-funded project aims to understand how certain molecules in tumors attract "bad" immune cells that limit cancer treatment. Her goal is to find ways to help the immune system fight cancer more effectively in all parts of a tumor. Learn more about Dr. Reeves.
Noah Elliott grew up in St. Charles, Missouri, looking to become a professional skateboarder. At age 15, after a skateboard event, he felt some leg pain and was eventually diagnosed with osteosarcoma, resulting in the amputation of his left leg above the knee. As part of a trip to Colorado for children with cancer, he met fellow osteosarcoma survivor and Paralympian Brenna Huckaby, and decided to make the switch to snowboarding.
Less than two years later, he made his Paralympic debut at the Winter Paralympic Games PyeongChang 2018 and won two medals including gold in banked slalom. He represented Team USA at the 2022 Beijing Paralympic Games, and medaled again in Milan in 2026. Learn more about Noah. The event will be hosted by Steve Wojciechowski, Assistant Coach, Utah Jazz.
